Dear Tunde,

I have been meaning to write to you for ages, and today I finally sat down with pen and paper because that holiday last summer keeps popping into my head. You remember how I was always going on about needing a real break from all the school stress? Well, this trip to Tarkwa Bay Beach was it, my most unforgettable holiday ever. Honestly, just thinking about the salty air and those endless waves makes me smile like a fool all over again.

I took a boat from the mainland, and right away, the world felt bigger and freer. The beach was paradise, soft golden sand that warmed your toes, water so blue and clear you could spot colorful fish swimming by. Unlike the packed spots in the city, it was peaceful, with just a handful of locals kicking a football around or tending to their nets. I splashed in the sea for hours that first day, letting the waves lift me up and down, my skin turning golden under the sun. I even gave body surfing a go and ended up face planting into the sand, sputtering and laughing so hard my sides hurt, best wipeout of my life!

Evenings were pure magic. We would light small fires on the shore, and the fishermen would join in, spinning tales of massive storms and sea spirits that guard the bay. This one elder, Pa Kola, showed me how to hack open a fresh coconut with his machete, my hands were trembling, but when that cool, sweet water gushed out, it was like drinking heaven itself. The food was next level too: spicy suya grilling over open flames, crispy plantain chips, and jollof rice with that perfect smoky kick from the beach fire. I would eat until I was stuffed, then lie back under a sky exploding with stars, the ocean’s rhythm lulling me to sleep. No signal, no deadlines, just that raw, alive feeling you cannot get anywhere else.

It was not all lazy days, though. I joined some local kids for volleyball, diving for the ball until the sun dipped low, our cheers echoing over the water. One sunset stuck with me forever, the sky turned fiery red and orange, bleeding into the sea, and I felt this ache in my chest, you know? Like beauty so intense it pinches. That is when it hit me: these trips are not just fun; they recharge your soul, make you see how much wonder is out there waiting. Back home, everything feels small and rushed by comparison.

Tunde, you have to experience Tarkwa Bay yourself, we would make epic memories together next time. What is the best holiday you have had? Tell me everything when you write back; I miss our chats. Looking forward to your letter.

Your friend always,
Chike
